Last week Balbriggan Community College Seniors took on St Joseph’s Rush in the final game of the league this season. The game started well for Balbriggan with all players working hard and showing good composure on the ball. This led to some nice forward play. Rush broke on a counter and had a golden scoring opportunity cleared off the line by Hassan who then made an excellent follow up challenge, broke forward with the ball and played it through to the attackers unfortunately not resulting in a goal. Shortly after, a long free kick was played up field by Scott over the top of the Rush defence to which Matthew ran onto and showed great restraint to take his time and slot the ball into the bottom corner to put BCC 1-0 up. Several minutes later, Matthew received a clever pass to his feet inside the Rush’s box and demonstrated the same composure to score again. Despite the players confidence being high, Rush managed to score one less than 5 minutes after BCC’s second. Rush netted again right before half time to bring it to 2-2 at the break. During half time there was still a feeling that this would be BCC’s first win of the season however this was not to be. Rush scored again not too long after the return to play and BCC lost some of their controlled play trying to force a response. In addition, a few substitutions were forced out of injury breaking Balbriggans flow further. Rush scored again and despite a Balbriggan resurgence the game finished Balbriggan 2 – Rush 4.
