30 students travelled to the North Leinster Athletics Championships on Tuesday 26th April. Students competed across a range of events including sprints, long distance, hurdles, high jump and shot put.
Our medal winners on the day were Calum McCoy who cleared 1.65m in the Intermediate Boys high jump to finish 3rd. Kian Smith finished fourth in the same competition clearing 1.60m. Both students are still in this age group next year so this was a great achievement. Hammed Oyefeso finished 3rd in the Intermediate Boys walk, a tough technical event.
Our sprinters did very well and most were just one or two places off getting into finals. Marvellous Agbator was the only sprinter to get to the 100m final in the Junior Boys event. He won his heat in great fashion, storming way ahead of his competitors but he was unlucky to be pipped for 3rd place in the final, finishing fourth.
All students did exceptionally well and did the school proud. Calum (High Jump) and Hammed (walk) will now go on and represent the school at the Leinster championships in May. More students will be in action next Wednesday for day 2 of the Championships. Thanks to Ms. Lucey and Ms. Murray for their encouragement and support.
