This year (2021/2022) we began an Amber Flag Committee in Balbriggan CC, in association with Pieta House. It is being run by volunteer students from Transition Year. The purpose of the committee is to promote mental health awareness, tools and resources, and work towards eradicating the stigmas associated with mental health issues within our school community. So far this year we have celebrated Mental Health Awareness week, Stand Up Awareness Week and carried out a Festive Fashion Funday Fundraiser with all proceeds donated to the Pieta House Charity. As it is the first year of Amber Flag in the school, our main aim is to achieve “Amber Flag” status for our school, meaning the committee will have demonstrated a number of efforts to promote mental health awareness and reduce mental health stigmas within the school.
