Second year Business students visited Caffrey’s Chocolate Factory today. The two hour tour which included a 25 minute film, explained in detail the story of chocolate and how cocoa beans are grown and harvested. The film showed the journey of cocoa beans from the Aztecs to the factory and the process cocoa beans go through to get the chocolate that we recognize today. The students were given a chocolate demonstration on how chocolates and Easter eggs are made. They were also shown the different machinery needed to make chocolate and the method of how to use a piping bag filled with chocolate. As always the fun part was the “hands on” session. The students put on aprons like a true chocolatier and started the business of coating chocolates, adding toppings and hand piping with white chocolate. All students got to decorate and package their chocolate to take home. At the end of the event there was a short table quiz. This was great fun! Each student received The Chocolate Warehouse Certificate which gave each student a sense of achievement and the enthusiasm for future learning. Thanks to Ms. Halpin and Ms.McGrath for organising the Business Studies trip.
