The annual Balbriggan Community College student awards took place on Thursday 24th May. Students were celebrated for their achievements during the past school year. The school would like to thank The Progressive Credit Union for their continued financial support of our school awards and recognising talent in our school.
First awards went to the students for their work in the Trinity College access programme. These included Shona Bogle, Kerri Ann Grant, Precious Igbinigun, Naglis Montivilas, Lee Sheridan and Joshua Donnelly. Students who represented the Scholars Advanced learning programme were also awarded certificates for their contributions including Jennifer Tanasa, Hoi Wong, Yevhen Brych, Hammed Oyefeso, Michael Makarenko, James Mc coy, Karim Wagih and Al Ameen Disu. Certificates were also presented to those students who represented the school in our most recent European student exchange in Germany.
The two students who achieved the highest marks in the Junior and Leaving certificate 2017 also had their amazing results recognised. They were Adam Worthington and Liam Kavanagh. Well done too, to Lana Mc Donnell and Cian Davis for their work in the Enterprise section. The hard work of our school prefects was acknowledged too.
In the sports category there were many awards presented, as the school enjoyed another successful year across many different types of sports. For Gaelic the main winners were Gavin Nolan, Calum Mc Coy, Frank Cabraley and Alex Rogers. In rugby, Yinka Adedokun and Habeeb Adeyemo walked away with the big prizes.
After yet another successful soccer season the main winners were Michael Pavlov, Aaron Caldwell and Ashley Vintem. Special mention must be given to Lido Lotefa, our 6th year student who won a range of prizes on the day including the Under 19 soccer player of the year and another outstanding achievement award for his selection to the Irish international u18 schoolboys team. He also walked away with the Cillian Gaffney award 2018 for his positive contribution to the schools Community Spirit. Well done Lido.
In basketball the main winners were Jake Morrell, Paige Larkin, Al- Ameen Disu, Stephen Mpemba, Kevin Johnson and Adam Worthington. In athletics there was another successful track and field season with our winners including Jake Morell and Yinka Adedokun alongside Marvellous Agbator and Kian Smith.
Cian Mooney and Jack Kevitt were rewarded for their unbelievable writing, acting and directorial skills in the Transition Year production of Balbriggan Community College -The Musical. A very bright future for these two boys.
The David Mc Donnell Award was this year presented to the Under 19s soccer team, while the Jessie Foley award for creative excellence went to Jordan McQuillan for his winning design in the “Design a coin competition”.
Students, who had worked exceptionally hard in each year group were also rewarded and the schools Green schools Committee were rewarded for achieving thier first Green flag.
The big awards of the day were for the students of the year. Winners included Lana Mc Donnell, Lee Sheridan, Aaron Caldwell, Cian Mooney, Darragh Foran, and Cian Mc Grane.
The overall student of the year 2018 was again presented very kindly by Kathleen Fanning to Cian Mc Grane. Well done to all the students who did so well on the day.
