The student award ceremony for Balbriggan Community College took place in the Bracken Court Hotel on Thursday 19th May. It was a great day with students being awarded certificates and trophies in many areas. Huge thanks must go to Progressive Credit Union, especially Gabriel Beggs for their continued financial support for our school awards.
Students in the Advanced learning programme were certified for their hard work including Nicolas Zacchaeus, Alan Balicki, Sean Andrews, Aaron Caldwell, James Kavanagh, Adam Saleh, Dylan Clarke, Lorcan Byrne, George Pitkevics, Niamh Russell, Jack Hallin, Adam Worthington and Jamie Sower.
Groups involved in Public Speaking, the Linguistics club, Irish speakers and Prefects were also acknowledged and rewarded on the day.
To mark the year that was in it, the David McDonnell award for performing arts was given to 5 students involved in reading out the proclamation on Proclamation day. They five students were Aaron Caldwell, Dylan Clarke, Peter Marrey, Dean Sheridan and Pawel Poezega.
The Jessie Foley award for creative awards was given to the LCA class for their work in the “Waste not want not project”.
Certs were also presented to students involved in drama, science, business and computer coding.
Trinity access awards were presented to Aaron Caldwell, George Pitkevics, Dylan Kelly, Jack Hallin, Niamh Russell and Omosumbo Raji.
Prizes were also given to students who were voted as being student of their year group. 1st year winner was Aaron Caldwell and runner up was Faye Donohoe. 2nd year winner was Lorcan Byrne while Jack Halligan was runner up. The 3rd year prize was won by Michael Markenko with Sarah Kendellen taking the runner up spot. 4th year winner was Liam Kavanagh and Kasper Kenckler was runner up. Finally the 5th year top prize went to Damilola Olaniyi with Amy Burnett taking the runner up prize.
Special recognition was given to two students who received the best Junior and Leaving certificate results in the school for 2015. They were Liam Kavanagh and Gabriel Grigore.
This year the Cillian Gaffney award for community spirit award went to the peer mentoring group who delivered their well being message to the students of the school. They were Ben Reilly Flynn, Anna Lewandowska, Ciara Mason and Dylan Tucker.
Soccer, gaelic and boxing awards were also presented.
Finally the big award of the day was presented to Damilola Olaniyi who was awarded Overall student of the Year for 2016.
